- Description
- Contractor will provide hepatitis test kits for standardized specimen testing in order to enable the accurate examination of specimens for outbreak and epidemiologic investigations, and for studies with State Health Departments. Test kits must be compatible with existing CDC Government equipment to eliminate the need for purchasing duplicate or new equipment. The contract period shall be for one (1) base year with four (4) additional one (1) year options. Solicitation will be issued on approximately July 1, 2003 to Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, Illinois, on a sole source basis. Abbott Laboratories is the sole source for kits to all hepatitis types. These include kits to detect the antibody to Hepatitis A virus (including IgM specific)[all Hepatitis A antibody positive serum specimens have to be run by an IgM specific test to determine if the patient has a current or past infection with Hepatitis A virus], and the kits used on the IMx for quick results that correlate with conventional overnight testing. A review was made of the list of licensed/approved assays in the US on the FDA website last updated on 12/18/02. At this time Abbott Laboratories is the only source for the kits (specific kits mentioned above) used in the Hepatitis Reference Laboratory. Authority: 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), Justification: Supplies required are available from only one responsible source and no other type of supplies will satisfy agency requirements. If you are able to provide hepatitis test kits that meet the above mentioned requirements, please contact Jeff Miller at afx2@cdc.gov.
