Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Advanced Technology Center (ATC) intends to procure a GenePix 4100B Integrated Array Scanner with copies of GenePix Pro 4.1 acquisition as an upgrade to a trade-in of an GenePix 4000A Array Scanner with Axon Instruments 3280 Whipple Road, Union City, California 94587. The supplies and services herein are being procured with the simplified acquisition procedures as defined in FAR Part 13. The North American Industry Classification System Code is 421450 and the business size standard is 100 employees. The focus of the laboratory tumor angiogenesis and endothelial cell gene expression profiling, is the interaction of a tumor and its vasculature, is critical for both tumor growth and the spread of tumor cells to distant organs. The Surgical Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute is requesting GenePix 4000B Integrated Array Scanner with copies of GenePix Pro 4.1 acquisition. NCI will be trading in an older Integrated Array Scanner, an AXON 4000A scanner purchased in FY02. The NCI shall be receiving a trade-in discount of $16,000 worth of hardware equipment with a transfer of the extended hardware warranty of $5,500.00. The upgraded 4000B scanner scans at 2 wavelengths in a single pass (at 10 microns resolution with a full scan area of 22 x 71.5 mm), dramatically increasing acquisition speed to only 5 minutes. The simultaneous scanning eliminates the need for post-capture image registration, avoids pixel shifting, and reduces photobleaching. This scanner has a sensitivity of 0.1 fluor/um2, detecting weaker signals, while maintaining a superior signal to noise ratio. The sensitivity of this instrument is important for detecting subtle changes in gene expression profiling in tumor vasculature. The sensitivity of the scanner for detecting changes in gene expression is instrumental in obtaining results that are accurate and reproducible. This scanner provides greater depth of field (64 microns) which is ideal for thick specimens and non-planar slide irregularities, which occur regularly with microarray glass slides. Again, this scanner corrects for irregularities which results in gene analysis data that is reproducible. Axon Instruments is the only source known to the NCI that can provide the GenePix 4000B Array Scanner, coupled with the GenePix Pro Array Software. It sets the highest standards in the acquisition and analysis of data from all types of arrays with powerful acquisition speed. Unlike other scanners and software that may take weeks to master, the GenePIX system can be used for routine scanning, acquisition and analysis straight out of the box. Most importantly, it allows for high resolution scanning of a standard glass array under 5 min. Since our lab routinely uses microarrays to study gene profiling of tumor vasculature, this scanner allows a greater number of arrays to scan without a compromise in resolution of data acquired. The above features of the Axon GenePix 4100B Integrated Array Scanner are believed to be unique to the NCI. This is not a notice for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirements, especially with regard to compatibility, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any other furnished information must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can fully meet the requirements. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 PM, EDT (local Washington, D.C. time) on June 12, 2003. If you have any questions, please contact Malinda Holdcraft, Purchasing Agent via electronic mail at holdcram@exchange.nih.gov or by fax 301-402-4513. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received shall be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted.
