Description
The United States Marine Corps has a requirement for procurement and delivery of a maximum of 148 Backhoe units, contractor logistics support, technical manuals, and operator/maintainer training. This effort will be pursued as a commercial item purchase, ID/IQ contract pursuant to FAR 2.1, which provides the standard definition of a commercial item. Standard practices for ?Acquisition of Commercial Items?, as set forth at FAR 12.203, will be applied throughout the process. Additionally, the contractor shall provide the requisite program management and logistics support to ensure that delivery schedules, performance requirements and worldwide supportability of the Backhoe is accomplished as set forth in the contract. Proposals will be due on or about 30 June 2003. The Backhoe program has been initiated to produce and deploy a commercial backhoe that will fulfill the performance objectives set forth in the specification. The BACKHOE is a replacement for the existing UNIMOG Backhoe, which has reached the end of it economical s service life. Essential BACKHOE mission requirements include digging, lifting, loading and trenching capabilities for lines of communications, logistics-over-the-shore and perform other tasks to include the repair, maintenance, and construction of survivability positions, roads, airfields, helipads, bridges, seaports, logistic bases, medical facilities, C2 protective shelters, structures and facilities. The BACKHOE will also provide vertical construction and logistic base support that will enhance the engineer support throughout the theater of operations.
