- Description
- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate a sole source purchase order with Cambridge University to perform laboratory testing on soft organic soils to evaluate the use of deep soil mixing techniques for soil stabilization applications. Cambridge University will perform literature review and durability of cement-bentonite and soft clay cement bentonite mixtures. Additionally, Cambridge will perform laboratory strength testing on mixed samples, walls of overlapping soil-mixed columns, compression tests on cored samples and laboratory-scale auger mix will be developed. Cambridge will provide a report on the results of the organic contamination on the mechanical properties of soil stabilized with wet soil mixing methods. Cambridge has developed special scaled augers to stimulate field soil mixing in their laboratory. They will be providing the facilities, staff and resources for the testing. Therefore, there is no other source that will be able to provide the unique and critical success of the experimental testing program. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is June 18, 2003.
