Description
NA SUBJECT: B516— Elk Creek Dam, Oregon, Trap and Haul Market Survey to determine if sources capable of satisfying the agency's requirements exist. DUE: 062303 DESC: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is in the process of preparing a solicitation for services whose primary goal is to pass adult and juvenile salmonids and other fish species, by trap and haul past the Elk Creek Project in Oregon [located downstream from the Lost Creek Project in southern Oregon (Medford). Shady Cove is the closest “city” (6 miles) and Medford is about 45 miles away.], and to evaluate the effectiveness of the trap and haul facility. The selected firm will be responsible fo r operating and maintaining the adult collection system, hauling and releasing fish species above the project, maintaining the fish barrier weir, maintaining fish passage at the diversion tunnel and culverts, and providing an evaluation of the operation. An evaluation will include but not be limited to enumeration of all fish species trapped and hauled, adult salmonid pre-spawning mortalities, fallback, and hatchery versus wild fish return ratios. Also responsible for the day to day operations of the faci lity, including activities associated with the trap and haul of fish species; coordinating; organizing and implementing the program; monitoring fish health and condition, implementing corrective measures; utilizing computer programs to manage daily operati ons. Work described within the proposal covers the period 1 October 2003 through 30 September 2004. Draft annual report will be provided to COE by 1 August 2004. Minimum Qualifications: Lead Biologist: B.S. in fisheries biology or related field with ap plied experience in the Pacific Northwest with population biology of salmonids. Achievements, experience, and references should indicate strong capacity to lead projects, innovate solutions, and excellent written and communication skills. Biological Tech nicians : Assists field biologists and/or field crew leaders in trap and hauling of fish species at the Elk Creek Dam Facility. Duties include operation and maintenance of the facility, transport and release of fish species, identification of salmonids an d various other related tasks; maintains equipment and assists in the daily operation of the facility. Preference will be given to applicants with experience identifying and handling adult salmonids, ability to work independently, mechanical aptitude, edu cation towards a degree (or completed degree) in the biological sciences, ecology, zoology, wildlife or fisheries management, or closely related field. Physical requirements for the job include: 1) Periods of sustained exertion and work primarily outdoor s; 2) Lifting up to 50 pounds and standing, walking, stooping, bending and climbing are required.
