- Description
- The U.S. Coast Guard Engineering Logistics Center has a requirement to procure one each CNC Horizontal Shaft Lathe to be installed at the U.S. Coast Guard YARD. This lathe shall be used for the machining and remachining of propulsion shafts, controllable pitch propeller blades, etc. used by the U.S. Coast Guard, ranging from 9 feet in length to 23 feet in length, and from 2 inch diameter to 21 inch diameter. Lathe must be able to provide a minimum 66 inch chuck swing over the bed, and a minimum 50 inch swing over the cross slide to facilitate machining of the largest shafts as well as meet other specific physical, functional, and performance characteristics. The U.S. Coast Guard Yard has conducted extensive market research, which indicates that Clausing Industrial is the only lathe manufacturer that can provide a lathe capable of handling this range of sizes without requiring extensive modifications to Yard facilities and without requiring extensive performance or feature modifications of other commercially available lathes. Therefore this requirement is being solicited utilizing a brand-name-or-equal specification in accordance with FAR Subpart 11.105. Interested sources that can provide a lathe capable of handling this range of sizes, etc., must meet the minimum salient physical, functional, and performance characteristics identified in the solicitation package. Offerors proposing other than the Clausing Industrial model identified shall be required to submit descriptive literature with their quotation to include, at a minimum, physical, functional, and performance characteristics, engineering specifications, drawings, etc., and any other information necessary to afford the Government the opportunity to adequately evaluate an alternate product. Request for Quotation Number DTCG40-03-Q-50077 shall be available for download from FedBizOpps (www.eps.gov) on or about 10 June 2003. All information necessary to submit a responsive offer shall be included in the solicitation package. Hard copies of the solicitation package shall not be issued from this office. Delivery shall be F.O.B. Destination to the U.S. Coast Guard Engineering Logistics Center, 2401 Hawkins Point Road, Baltimore, MD 21226-5000. Delivery shall be no later than 120 calendar days after the date of contract award. See Numbered Notes 12 and 22.
