- Description
- This is a REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ? THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS. This RFI requests information needed by the Government prior to release of any potential solicitation. This is not a request for proposals and in no way obligates the Government to award any contract. The Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NAVEODTECHDIV) is requesting information on commercially available, small, two-man portable, tethered or un-tethered, unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) systems, including platforms, sensors, communications, navigation subsystems, and tactical displays suitable for application in rapidly reconnoitering underwater areas of concern (e.g., ship hulls, harbor/port areas and other underwater areas). Information requested will assist the government in examining alternatives for Navy EOD forces to operate in the littorals with unmanned systems to improve ove rall mission effectiveness, reduce their tactical timeline, and reduce risk to man-in-the-water solutions. Areas of particular interest are: - Hardware systems that can be operated in an un-tethered mode for systematic search and identify schemes, or in a tethered/hovering mode for object investigation. - Systems that can search, investigate and rapidly localize, and identify unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO) objects in harbors and seaward approaches out to water depths of 300 feet. - Real-time or near real-time feedback on searched areas is desired, particularly when time is a critical factor in search and object localization operations (Post-mission data retrieval and analysis is still acceptable in some scenarios.) - Navigation systems that minimize degradation from high turbidity, harbor noise, magnetic anomalies or poor acoustics performance due to shallow water . - Solutions that allow for unmanned search and precise mapping and sensing of the below water portions of steel and non-ferrous hull-forms, hull protrusions, running gear, bottom clutter, and areas between and around pilings characteristic of harbors and berthing areas are also of interest. - Modular, plug and play payloads for up and/or down-looking operations . - Small UUVs and platforms currently under development that are planned to become available in the 2006/2007 timeframe. This information will be utilized in an Analysis of Alternatives study that precedes a planned UUV acquisition program scheduled to begin in FY 2004. Performance description information is sought in the form of brochures, specification sheets and company points of contact. Design proposals requiring developmental funding are not of interest at this time. This synopsis is for informat ion and planning purposes ONLY, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. Submit responses to Commander, Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division, 2008 Stump Neck Road, Indian Head, MD 20640-5070, Attn: Margaret Booth Code 0521 or email at boothma@eodpoe2.navsea.navy.mil not later than 30 June 2003.
