Description
The National Park Service intends to issue a concession prospectus within the next 14 days for the continuation of Floatplane Transportation Service at Isle Royale National Park. Primary concession services are a seasonal operation of a public reservation (on-demand) Floatplane air transportation service between the Houghton, Michigan area and two locations within Isle Royale National Park - Tobin Harbor (adjacent to Rock Harbor Lodge area), and Washington Harbor (adjacent to the Windigo Ranger Station). Daily service must be provided between the middle of May to the end of September, weather permitting, during the months of June, July, and August. This business opportunity is for on-demand transportation only. Due to the park's wilderness designation and noise impacts to wilderness users and wildlife, aerial charter and/or sightseeing tours are not a part of this business opportunity. Isle Royale, and its 400 neighboring islands, forms an archipelago in the Michigan waters of Lake Superior adjacent to the international boundary with Canada. The park is about 50 miles north of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, 13 miles from Ontario, and 18 miles from the north shore of Minnesota. The annual gross receipts for the past few years have been between $130,000-$163,000. The average annual visitation to the park is approximately 17,000 visitors annually. The new concession contract will be for 10 years. Further details are available in the Prospectus. The National Park Service has determined, in accordance with 36 CFR Part 51, Subpart F, that the new concession contract is a qualified concession contract as the anticipated annual gross receipts are not expected to exceed $500,000. However, no existing concessioner is present and there is not a Preferred Offeror for this contract - the contract will be awarded to the party submitting the best offer. Any offer must be received in the Concession Management Office of the National Park Service in Omaha, Nebraska, Midwest Regional Office, 1709 Jackson Street, Omaha, NE 68102 no later than 4:00 p.m. on the response date shown above, in order to be evaluated and considered for an award of a concession contract to provide visitor services in Isle Royale National Park. Parties interested in obtaining a prospectus should contact Betsy Rossini, Assistant Superintendent at Isle Royale National Park at 906/487-7142. You must include in your request for the prospectus a delivery address that will accept a Federal Express package. An electronic copy of the prospectus is not available. The prospectus, when issued, will contain information on the business opportunity, the new concession contract, the proposal package and terms and conditions under which the National Park Service will award the new concession contract. The National Park Service intends to issue a concession prospectus within the next 14 days for the continuation of Floatplane Transportation Service at Isle Royale National Park.
