Description
Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC), managing contractor of the Savannah River Site for the Department of Energy near Aiken, South Carolina, is soliciting expressions of interest from companies wishing to obtain license rights to market and distribute the following technology to commercial customers. License rights may be granted on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. WSRC also may be available to assist in further research and development of the technology under a cooperative research and development agreement and/or may provide technical assistance during commercialization of the technology under a license agreement. The technology is a new mounting system for flat panel video technology. The plasma screen floating mount is a mounting system proven to eliminate vibration and dampen shock for mobile applications of plasma screens, thereby eliminating interference to the picture on the screen or damage to costly equipment. Manufacturers recommend against mounting large screen displays in environments where shock and vibration occur. WSRC devised the floating mount for use in a mobile laboratory van. The large 42-inch screen using this mounting system provides stable, interference free pictures even while traveling at 65-70 mph. The design of the current unit supports a plasma display screen with an approximate weight of 60 pounds. The frame is designed to allow the display to ?float? within a 2 dimensional space, both vertically and horizontally. The ability of the screen to float eliminates vibration and dampens shock to the display in the event of external impacts such as pot holes or rough terrain. The plasma screen floating mount should be useful for applications such as, medical, defense, environmental mobile laboratories, or mobile command centers, as well as numerous other governmental or private uses. Any company interested in licensing this technology must respond with a letter of interest (may be submitted by email) no later that July 24, 2003, summarizing the company?s business and technical expertise and motivation for pursuing this opportunity. Qualified companies will be provided with further information on the technology. Such information may require an executed nondisclosure agreement. Respondents wishing to enter into negotiations for a license will be required to submit a business plan prior to licensee selection and negotiations. Company qualifications should include, but not be limited to, compatible product lines, sufficient manufacturing capacity, sound product develop plan, reasonable schedule for product launch, established distribution networks, evidence of sufficient financial resources for product development and launch. Questions and expressions of interest may be addressed to the Point of Contact identified in this Notice: Dale K. Haas, telephone (803) 725-4185; fax (803) 725-4988; email dale.haas@srs.gov; or address Westinghouse Savannah River Company, Building 773-41A, Room #238, Aiken, SC 29808. This is not a procurement; it is a request for parties interested in licensing opportunities only.
