- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), Office of Cancer Survivorship (OCS) plans to procure the production and publication of twenty-one pages of proceedings and two abstracts from a State-of-the-Science (SOS) meeting held in July 2002 in the "Journal of the National Cancer Institute Monograph" from the Oxford University Press, 8120 Woodmont Ave., Suite 500, Bethesda, Maryland, 20814. The acquisition is being conducted under the simplified acquisition procedures authorized in FAR Part 13. The North American Industry Classification System Code is 511120 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The NCI and the Office of Medical Applications of Research sponsored a State-of-the-Science (SOS) meeting entitled: Cancer Symptom Management: Pain, Depression & Fatigue, held July 15-17, 2002. The purpose of the meeting was to examine the current state of knowledge regarding the prevalence, assessment and treatment of pain, depression and fatigue in individuals with cancer, and identify directions for future research. The Oxford University Press as the publisher for the "Journal of the National Cancer Institute Monographs" shall review, copy, edit, and publish the "Cancer Symptom Management: Pain, Depression & Fatigue" as a Journal of the National Cancer Institute Monograph. The monograph includes: twenty-one papers and two abstracts of presentations given at the SOS meeting, the panel's final summary report and a brief introduction. Review involves sending out manuscripts to designated reviewers, collating reviews and sending them to the NCI Scientific Coordinators for response and assessment, sending the Scientific Coordinators' responses and masked reviews to each author for manuscript revision and forwarding the revised manuscripts for assessment by the Scientific Coordinators. Copy editing involves careful review of each manuscript to ensure that the format is consistent with JNCI standard formatting, that tables and references are complete and correctly formatted, that language, syntax, and grammar are clear and correct, and that the tables and figures are explained. Publishing the monograph. The monograph shall be no longer than 200 printed pages inclusive of front matter and illustrations. The contractor shall provide regular updates via e-mail to the two Monograph editors on the progress of the above duties. Copies of the manuscripts will be provided to the corresponding authors. Additionally, 50 total copies will be provided to the scientific coordinators. Oxford University Press is the only known source that publishes the "Journal of the National Cancer Institute," which encompasses the journals affiliated with The National Cancer Institute and The Journal of the National Cancer Institute Monographs. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirements, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any other furnished information must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can fully meet the requirements herein. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 PM EDT (local Washington DC time) on July 16, 2003.
