- Description
- The National Immunization Program (NIP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is interested in receiving information on low-cost disposable technologies for the generation of medical aerosols. Information is sought on nebulizer technologies that are available in commercial products or are in advanced development, i.e., technologies that can be quickly adapted for use in mass vaccination devices. Technologies must be amenable for use with live-virus vaccines, thus mechanical and thermal stress to the vaccine must be minimized. Vaccines of immediate interest include measles, measles-rubella, and measles-mumps-rubella. Technologies must generate respirable aerosols with most particles in 2 to 10 micrometer size range and aerosolization rates of approximately 300 microliters per minute. Technologies should be capable of packaging into compact, portable devices requiring minimal electrical power (e.g., rechargeable batteries) and capable of rugged field use. Anticipated use will involve administration of up to 100 doses per hour and 1000 doses per day (15 to 30 second dose). Components contacting patient or vaccine must be low cost and disposable. Target costs for disposable components are less than $0.05 to 0.10 per vaccinee. Balance of device may be reusable and with target cost of less than $250 per device. Interested parties should provide brief written submittals (less than 5 pages), to be received by the Government by COB on July 25, 2003. Submittals need not adhere to any specific format but should provide information on (1) description of technology, (2) summary of aerosol generation performance, (3) estimated cost of disposables and device, and (4) present development status. Proprietary material is discouraged, but if submitted, must be clearly marked with a notice at the top of each page. The Government will evaluate submittals for aerosol generation performance, fit to ongoing device development programs, technological maturity, and potential for meeting cost targets. This announcement should not be construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or ultimately award a contract. Mailing address for submissions is Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, PGO/Acquisition & Assistance Branch B, Attn: Ms. Johnnie Thomas, 2920 Brandywine Road, Mailstop E-01, Atlanta, GA 30341-5539. If you wish to submit your response via email, please send the response as an attachment to your email in Word 97 or later format to jthomas@cdc.gov, and put ?Response to Sources Sought Synopsis 00628-01? in the subject line. Technical questions should be directed to Dr. Mark Papania by phone at (404) 639-8761, or by email at mpapania@cdc.gov.
