- Description
- Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) intendes to award a purchase order/subcontract in response to a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) solicitation for a high-density (One Master Node and Forty Compute Nodes) rack-mounted dual AMD "Opteron" 240 based Beowulf Cluster in support of a Science Directorate (SD) located at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). The "system" will utilize commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components and be used to develop custom software in support of the Radiation Shielding Program at MSFC. Custom software will be engineered, generated, compiled, and executed utilizing the AMD Opteron 240 architecuture's HyperTransport, X86 32/64bit simultaneous computing, SSE/SSE2 specifications, and integrated DDR features that support floating point based computations and simulations not currently available on other similar cost competitive industry processors. The "system" will be a complete integrated hardware/software (Linus O/S, Portland Compiler Groups s/w, communications s/w, and GNU support compilers/libraries) packaged solution within a two (2) rack/cabinet configuration suitable for future dynamic compute node expansion to meet ongoing computational requirements. The anticipated release date of RFP 071CSC28537 will be on or about 25 July 2003 with an anticipated proposal due date of on or about 11 August 2003.
