Description
NASA/JSC has a requirement for a Raman Microprobe that can provide rapid preliminary phase characterization of ~5-20 micrometer-sized mineral grains suspended within blocks of silica aero gel. We require a spectral resolution of 0.4 cm-1 or better, a spectral coverage of 388cm-1, or better, and data collection within a few minutes. We require true confocal optics, which is critical for analysis of multi-component samples in the minimum time with greatest spectral resolution. We require that the sample microscope be securely mounted to the instrument housing, minimizing vibration problems. We require true confocal line scan imaging, which retains confocality, and maximizes system efficiency, providing a full Raman spectrum at 1-micron spatial resolution across the entire Raman image. We require a focal length of 0.8m, or better, permitting collection of the maximum quantity of information. NASA/JSC intends to purchase the Raman Microprobe from Jobin Yvon Raman Spectroscopy Group, which is the only instrument that NASA found to be acceptable and met all the requirements. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B".
