- Description
- The purpose of a MIS, or a network of MISs, is to educate the traders, producers and consumers about the market. A better understanding of the market should lead to informed decision making, resulting in higher profits for producers and traders as well as lower prices for consumers. In effect, the result would be increased trade based food security, achieved by providing commercially relevant and timely information to promote cross border trade. Current market information enables farmers to negotiate with traders from a position of greater strength and encourages an efficient distribution of products between markets. Increasing the capacity of traders? organizations is seen as key in the development of a regional market information system that must respond to commercial needs, and not academic or bureaucratic exigencies.
