- Description
- Method for Measuring Binding Constants Abstract/Description: Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has developed efficient methods and an apparatus for measuring and screening the binding interactions between receptors (e.g. enzymes) and ligands (e.g. small molecules). The methods do not require exogenous tags or other chemical modifications to either the small molecule or the enzyme. However, the methods are compatible with surface attached enzymes and small molecules. Some status quo screening methods may require tagged ligands (e.g., in fluorescence activated cell sorting) or surface immobilization of the receptor (e.g., surface plasmon resonance). These requirements may be ill-suited or practically impossible for some receptor/ligand pairs. In particular, tagging of many small molecules may change receptor affinity, and many protein receptors may not be currently attachable to surfaces. Market Applications: ? Pharmaceutical and drug discovery ? Established research market for measuring binding constants ? Chemical detection ? Pharmaceutical metabolite studies ? DNA or RNA binding studies Advantages/Benefits: ? Method provides for rapid screening of chemicals for drug and pharmaceutical applications ? Many small molecules may be used ? Many enzymes and similar receptors may be used Intellectual Property Status: Three U.S. patent applications are pending covering the methods and apparatus described herein. Foreign patent protection may also be available. This technology is available for license and may be licensed exclusively or nonexclusively, depending upon the finalization of the optimal commercialization strategy. Cooperative research and development opportunities may also be available. Reference Numbers: S-100,585 S-100,502 S-99,911 S-94,661 Companies with an interest in licensing the LANL technology referenced above or that are interested in entering into a collaborative arrangement with LANL to further develop this technology for future commercialization must submit a written letter of intent to the contact listed above. The letter of intent must address the following important areas: (1) provide a description of the company, including its business goals; (2) demonstrate experience with developing and marketing similar technology; (3) specify the company?s motivation for participating in the commercialization of the technology described above and identify how commercialization of this technology fits with the company?s current product offering and business focus; and (4) briefly describe the human and financial resources available (e.g., annual report) to support the commercialization of this technology. The letter of intent must be postmarked by September 2, 2003. LANL will provide additional information to each respondent that submits a letter of interest that meets the above criteria. Such correspondence will be distributed to eligible respondents within 2-3 weeks following receipt of letters of intent.
