The associated North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code 339111, which has a size standard of 500. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases intends to procure on a sole source basis a Robotic Crystallization System - Enhanced IMPAX 6-Channel dispensing chassis, with a 4-axis plate loader, 12 channel motion control center, a crystallization software kit, and a pick and mix software kit. This system is intended to be procured from Douglas Instruments Limited, the only known distributor of the precision crafted device system. The system and its components are as follows: a) Enhanced IMPAX 6-Channel dispensing chassis with motorized syringe drivers and 10 patented dispensing tips. Supplied with accessories, manuals and cables. Comprises 5 low volume channels and one high volume channel; b) 4-axis plate loader for use with the system; c) 12 channel motion control center with stepper motor drivers to control dispensing system and plate loader, allowing windows capability; d) crystallization software kit, which includes: X-step software for lattice type optimization & WASP and WASPRUN software for screening; and e) Pick and Mix Software Kit, which includes: software for generalized screening and optimization with either premixed solutions or up to 48 stock solutions. The required unique features of this system are as follows: 1) Automatic set-up of crystallization experiments using the microbatch method 2) Automatic set-up using only 1 to 0.1 ?1 of protein or macromolecule solution 3) Automatic set-up of microbath experiments with final volume of 0.2 ?1 4) Set-up time for dispensing of 144 crystallization trials in a single screening experiment is 5 to 10 minutes 5) Dispensing of crystallization experiments can be performed without human supervision, following initial set-up & 6) User friendly software for designing both screening and optimization experiments. These units have the ability to set up crystallization experiments with protein and other biological macromolecules automatically, their capable of handling both soluble and membrane proteins as well as solutions containing biological detergents. The major scientific mission of the Molecular Biology Section of the Laboratory of Immunology is to understand the molecular basis of interaction immune cell receptors that are involved in regulation of the immune response in infection, cancer and autoimmunity.
