Description
Provide all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and qualified supervision to install thermostatic mixing valves on the hot water supply for Buildings 400, 401, 402, 403, 404, 406, 407, and 408 at the VA Medical Center, Tomah, Wisconsin, that are supplied with hot water by AERCO steam operated water heaters that are rated at 54 GPM. Provide Armstrong RADA 4DR or equivalent mixing valves. These valves must have integral check valves and be certified as being compliant with ASSE Standard 1017. The thermostatic mixing valves must sense recirculating water temperature in order to prevent overshooting the output temperature. Mount the thermostatic mixing valves in accessible locations using hard copper and inlet, outlet, and recirculating line gate valves to allow maintenance and repair of the valve and piping. The valve will be operated with 140 degree F. water discharge temperature from the water heater to the mixing valve. The output temperature must be maintained at 130 degrees F. The 130-degree F. output temperature must be maintained at flow rates from 2 GPM to 43 GPM. Outlet and inlet thermometers with appropriate ranges shall be installed along with each mixing valve. The solicitation will address the sizing of existing hard copper piping at each building. All new piping installed as well as any existing insulation that is removed shall be insulated with a minimum of 1 1/2" fiberglass insulation and covered with a protective outer jacket. Since these hot water heaters primarily serve medical care buildings, the timeframe for hot water interruption must be limited to a maximum of two (2) hours. The completion date is 30 calendar days from issuance of the Notice to Proceed. Cost range is between $25,000 and $100,000. Award is subject to the availability of funds. NAICS code 238220 applies. Project Engineer is Gary Ewers at (608) 372-3971, ext. 61667. Estimated issue date for solicitation will be August 8, 2003. Solicitation will be posted on FedBizOpps, and no other distribution of the solicitation will be made.
