- Description
- The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate a sole source purchase order with Penn State University to conduct research on the ?Assessment of Stream Stability in the Vicinity of Highway Crossings?. The research will expand and improve the rapid stability assessment method to include the following: major physiographic provinces across the U.S. range of bank materials and complexities, critical bank heights, guidance on selecting cross section locations and number of sections, stream type and processes, sand bed streams, width-depth ratio, and in-channel bars or lack of bars and to make the assessment method generally applicable in all types of streams across the U.S. Penn State University will review Thorne?s Reconnaissance Sheets, conduct site visits to establish a plan for site visits and data collection, develop and extend stability indicators by stream type, develop of indicators of the stability selected from excellent to poor and to make separate tables as required. The research and assessment was developed will be tested by Penn State University, who will be providing the facilities and researchers to conduct the testing, research and methodological stages for complete findings and submission to FHWA they are the only source who can provide the services.
