Description
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services intends to award on a sole source basis under Simplified Acquisition Procedures with the University of North Texas, Health Science Center at Fort Worth, School of Public Health, 3500 Camp Bowie Boulevard, Fort Worth, Texas 76107-2699 a contract to hold a workshop entitled ?Hispanic Health Services Research Conference ? Improving Health Outcomes and Health Disparities: Research and Intervention Perspective?. This conference is a partnership between the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the University of North Texas, Health Science Center at Fort Worth, School of Public Health. CMS is partnering with this Hispanic Serving Institution to: 1) Share information about CMS?s Hispanic Health Services Research Grant Program, 2) disseminate research findings about racial disparities in health outcomes, 3) address critical issues in health disparities that threaten the health of Hispanic Americans, 4) discuss strategies to minimize the differences in health status among Hispanic Americans, 5) describe approaches to decrease barriers to care n the Hispanic American community, and 6) discuss successful interventions for decreasing health disparities among Hispanic Americans. The conference will be held at the University of North Texas in the spring of 2004. The conference will highlight the existing disparity in health status of Hispanic American communities and feature ongoing research efforts of Hispanic health professionals/researchers. It will serve as a conduit to bring together Hispanic investigators to share their research. Furthermore, this conference will set the stage for future collaborative work and move closer to healthy people 2010 objectives of reducing disparity in health care. The University of North Texas Health Science Center is one of the nation's distinguished academic medical centers dedicated to the advancement of all three disciplines of medical science education, research and patient care. The UNTHSC consists of three major institutions - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O. and PA degrees), the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (M.S. and Ph.D. degrees) and the School of Public Health (MPH and Dr.P.H degrees) - with a combined faculty of more than 200, a staff of 900, and a cadre of some 400 community physicians and adjunct professors. The UNTHSC consists of three major institutions - Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O. and PA degrees), the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (M.S. and Ph.D. degrees) and the School of Public Health (MPH and Dr.P.H degrees) - with a combined faculty of more than 200, a staff of 900, and a cadre of some 400 community physicians and adjunct professors This HSI has the necessary experience and unique capability to put on this type of conference. Further justification for the sole source award to University of North Texas, Health Science Center at Fort Worth, School of Public Health resides in his technical capabilities, which have been applied in the past to HSIs projects similar to that within the Statement of Work for this proposed contract. Furthermore, CMS staff determined the conference should be held in Fort Worth, Texas because of its closeness to Hispanic communities in the region. If there are no affirmative written responses received within (45) calendar days from the published date of this notice, a purchase order shall be awarded.
