Description

1. Demolition and replacement of Little Bat Avenue staircase -within Mammoth Cave consists of the removal of two concrete platforms that link the Mammoth Dome staircase with Little Bat Avenue in order to open the passageway for improved airflow. Included in the work is the removal of the steel staircase and aluminum handrail system and replacement with a stainless steel stair and handrail system. Stair risers and platforms are to be constructed of a stainless grating material to improve air flow. Demolition of the existing platform and stairway system includes complete removal and disposal outside Mammoth Cave National Park. The project site is located in the Mammoth Dome area in the passageway between the top of the Mammoth Dome Tower and Little Bat Avenue. Access to the project site is through the Historic Entrance and along Little Bat Avenue to the top of the Mammoth Dome Tower. 2. Repainting of Mammoth Dome Tower - The work of consists of the specialized repainting of the Mammoth Dome Tower. The work will include encasing the tower in plastic to collect all cleaning debris, control dust, and odors (HEPA and/or activated charcoal) for removal from the cave, and to provide an environment that promotes curing. Mammoth Dome Tower project site is located along the Historic Tour route at the end of "Little Bat Avenue", approximately ? mile from the Historic Entrance. ***Solicitation, specifications and drawings will be posted to http://ideasec.nbc.gov on Wednesday, August 6, 2003.
