- Description
- Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Purpose of proposed contract is to provide research on investigation of sea turtle and pelagic fish sensory physiology and behavior, with the aim of developing techniques that reduce or eliminate interactions of sea turtles with longline fishing gear. VIMS ha maintained the Sea Turtle Stranding Program and the Virginia Sea Turtle Stranding Network since 1979, and maintain a 22-year database of strandings. The NMFS Project Manager will be located at VIMS and will work in association with Dr. Richard Brill. Dr. Brill is the prime architect behind sea turtle-pelagic fish sensory biology research program since its inception. Questions concerning the proposed contract may be directed to Randall Brown. This is a simplified acquisition with an estimated value of less than $100,000.
