- Description
- This project is the Kigalia Point Mine Reclamation, which is part of the Monticello Ranger District Abandon Uranium Mine Closure projects. This proposal is to reopen the access road, close 1 vent shaft, and 1 mine pit in this abandoned uranium mine. The vent would be closed by placing a polyurethane foam plug at the top and covering it with soil. The pit closures will include removing abandoned equipment and structures, removing and reshaping waste rock piles, the last item is reclaiming roads, and revegetating the area. The project has a Government estimate between $25,000 - $100,000. 100% payment bond or Irrevocable letter of credit is required after award. The approximate posting date for the solicitation and applicable drawings / maps will be 22 August 2003 to this same website. Those interested should plan to meet at 10:00 a.m. on 2 September 2003 at Shirt Tail Junction gas station located at the junction of State Highway 95 and U.S. Highway 191, which is approximately 3 miles south of the town of Blanding, Utah. We will travel in convoy from there to the site. The location of the mine site can be found by turning west at the junction of U.S. Highway 191 and State Highway 95, approximately 3 miles south of Blanding, Utah. Travel about 6 miles west, then turn north on the Cottonwood Wash (FR 092) road. Continue traveling northwest (on South Elk Ridge road) about 17 miles to the junction of FR 089 and FR 088. Take FR 088 for 1 1/2 mile (half a mile past the Kigalia Guard Station) then turn north on Forest Road 333 and travel about 3.4 miles to the mine site. The start date for project is anticipated to be 15 September 2003 with a period of performance approximately 30 days. *****
