- Description
- NA THE PURPOSE OF THIS MODIFICATION IS TO ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1) Are you looking for custom software or software that is off-the-shelf? Users should be able to use standard software (e.g. web browser and PDF reader) to access the information. 2) Do you prefer the software to be installed at your facilities on your hardware or have the software hosted at our data center? Prefer system be hosted outside our facilities, and accessed via Internet. If installed at your facilities, what is your preferred platform and database (i.e. Windows, UNIX, Oracle, etc.)? 3) What are the primary uses for the Internet Services? You stated in the solicitation that you wanted various functionality such as text search, viewing, printing of various catalog information, but what is this information used for (i.e. placing or ders, document management, supply chain management, etc.)? Technical data and documents to be used for engineering and logistics support, supply chain management, and document managment. 4. Who are the users of the system? Natick personnel are the users. First, throughout the document there are references to DoD Specs and standards documents. Is there a way to reference these? Mil specs and standards documents can be referenced via the Defense Standardization Program (DSP) and the Document Automation and Production Service (DAPS). They are available to the public as well a s government users. Second, at first glance your requirements seem to be well within the operational specs of even a shared web server. Do you require a dedicated server for this application? No. Are there any security concerns beyond those that would be addressed by running a civilian SSL server? The data is not classified. There are the normal security concerns for running applications accessed via the Internet, and we want access to the service to be password-protected. Third, in what form will the catalogs reach us? We are obviously building/deploying a database here, and there is a vast difference between creating one from a paper catalog and converting an existing one (or more) for the web. Either hard copy or electronic source for catalog information could be used by vendor to build the database. Finally, we specialists in Open Source development, and our tools of choice for a project like this are a combination of Apache, MYSQL, and PHP on the Linux platform. Are there any reasons that this would be a problem for you? No. Our requirement is that users be able to access, search, view documents via the Internet using their PCs. ____________________________________________________________________________
