Description

THE PURPOSE OF THIS AMENDMENT IS TO RESPOND TO TECHNICAL QUESTIONS QUESTION: In your requirements, you are requesting a horizontal clearance of approximately 32 in. My question is, will the tire be placed at the bottom of the test frame in its entirety. Is it possible to place only a portion of the tire in the test frame during the test? Are there any test specifications you can forward to me, detailing the methods of your proposed testing? ANSWER: The requirements for bicycles can be found in 16 CFR 1512 and the test manual for bicycles is available on the CPSC web site. the rim test in section 5.12 applies a 2,000 n (450 lbf) load to the hub of the wheel with the tire supported fully by a ?mask.? As envisioned for the purpose of specifying this equipment, the tire shall be placed at the bottom of the test frame in its entirety. The project officer can not answer the second part of question (is it possible to place only a portion of the tire in the test frame during the test?) without seeing specific details on how the vendor proposes to meet the testing requirement outlined in 16 CFR 1512.
