Description
Solicitation Number NA1341-03-Q-0654 is hereby amended to address the following vendor questions and revise two (2) of the specifications as follows: Question: What is the required gas for the detectors, Xenon? Answer: There is no specific type of gas specified for the sealed gas-proportional detectors. Xenon (Xe-Co2) and P10 (Argon-Methane) are both acceptable. The detectors on PCM shall be sealed gas proportional detectors and require low maintenance. The detector windows shall be of a thin, industry standard type material such that detection of low energy betas is permitted, i.e., C-14; unsealed gas flow detectors are unacceptable. Question: If Xenon, how can the detection system detect Alpha particles (Radon), due to the Mylar windows being so dense (durability) for the sealed detectors? Answers: NIST would like a low maintenance sealed detector system that measures contamination from alpha, beta and photon radiation and measures the Radon contamination without sounding an alarm from this contamination. To the best of our knowledge, no such machine exists. Therefore, NIST will drop the Radon contamination compensation specification (specification #12) entirely. The following specifications have been revised: (12) Completely removed and (21) When installed the PCM shall have a maximum footprint of 54 inch x 54 inch and a maximum height of 92 inch. The due date of August 18, 2003 @ 3 pm EST remains unchanged.
