Description
NASA/LaRC is hereby soliciting information about potential sources for a Laser Risk Reduction Project. As part of a Laser Risk Reduction Project, NASA Langley is planning to evaluate and compare the performance of different high power Laser Diode Arrays suitable for pumping 2-micron solid state lasers. Laser Diode Array has been identified as one of the major risk areas for development and deployment of laser-based instruments in space. Therefore, NASA Langley plans to acquire and characterize high power Laser Diode Arrays with different material compositions, architectures, and packaging in order to identify the best suited devices for pumping 2-micron solid state lasers. The lifetime and reliability of Laser Diode Arrays are particularly critical to NASA in meeting its objectives of deploying long life-time laser/lidar instruments in space. The general requirements of these devices are listed below. Wavelength: 792 nm Spectral Width: 5 nm Peak Power: 600 W Pulse Duration: 1 msec Duty Factor: 1% Package: Conductively-Cooled The major parameters of interest are output beam quality and luminance, thermal characteristics, lifetime and reliability. The performance of the devices acquired under this procurement will be compared with each other and with the existing Laser Diode Arrays previously acquired by NASA Langley. The results of these studies will help defining the best suitable Laser Diode Arrays with highest level of reliability for future laser/lidar space missions. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offeror?s responsibility to monitor these sites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Responses must include the following: a capability statement of 5 single pages or less indicating the ability to perform all aspects of the effort described herein, name and address of firm, size of business; average annual revenue for past 3 years and number of employees; ownership; whether they are large, small, small disadvantaged, 8(a), HUBZone, and/or woman-owned; number of years in business; affiliate information: parent company, joint venture partners, potential teaming partners, prime contractor (if potential sub) or subcontractors (if potential prime); list of customers covering the past three years (highlight relevant work performed, contract numbers, contract type, dollar value of each procurement; and point of contact - address and phone number). Questions should be directed to the listed points of contacts. Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or commercial-type product. A commercial item is defined in FAR 2.101. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto. All responses shall be submitted to Terri D. Williams no later than August 21, 2003. Please reference 1-LAL-RFJ-1531 in any response. Any referenced notes may be viewed at the following URLs linked below.
