- Description
- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a requirement for the acquisition of 105 Pinion Gear Kits, part number 43576, NSN 3040-01-511-0283, from Titan, Datron Advanced Technology Division. Sewel Gear Manufacturing (Sewel) is the original manufacturer of the pinion gear kits. These pinion gear kits are required for use in the Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) pedestal. Titan has an agreement with Sewel that all items required in support of the TDWR must be purchased through Titan. Titan is the only know source for these kits because of the agreement with Sewel and since they have made modification to the pinion gear kits in order to perform in the TDWR. The FAA intends to solicit and negotiate only with Titan, Simi Valley, CA, in accordance with AMS Policy 3.2.2.4. A market survey was conducted in August 2003, and the results of this survey supported our determination to solicit and negotiate with only one firm.
