Description
NA The following information is provided to the questions on the POL glove: 1) What test(s) be used to verify the penetration of JP8 with the finished glove or glove liner? Answer: Penetration of JP8 shall be tested in accordance with NFPA 1973 Gloves for Structural Fire Fighting 1993 Edition for 'Whole Glove integrity Testing' with the exception that it shall be tested with JP8 and not water. 2) Please provide the original glove flame test requirement so that we are better capable of understanding what requirements are called out with the 'flame resistance from flash fires when tested in accordance with NFPA 1971.' Answer: The POL gloves shall be tested for flame resistance as follows: The test shall be conducted using ASTM-F-1358 for the 'Effects of Flame Impingement on Materials Used in Protective Clothing Not Designed Primarily for Flame Resistance'. The test s hall be performed as specified except using a specimen representing the system configuration cut from the entire glove system including the insert (removable liner), if applicable. The glove system shall meet the following requirements: after flame - 10 seconds(max.), burn distance - 1 inch (max.), burn behavior - no melting/drip. 3) Please further define the intended 'flame resistance from flash fires' test (TPP actually measures time to 2nd degree burn). Answer: To provide the user with Thermal Protective Performance on the POL glove. The TTP average rating shall be 35.0. 4)Please clarify the statement 'the POL Glove shall be compatible with Extended Cold Weather Clothing System (ECWCS)'. Answer: The user shall be able to wear the gloves over the ECWCS for additional protection to the arm.
