- Description
- The National Cancer Institute, Health Communication and Informatics Research Branch (HCIRB), intends on entering into a sole source contract with the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Center for Communication Policy (CCP) for support of additional modules to the annual UCLA, ?Surveying the Digital Future? longitudinal survey as a strategy for expanding the reach of data collected with the NCI?s Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) research projects. The HINTS project collects data about the American public?s access to health information, preference for communication channels, and use of health information. UCLA launched the annual ?Surveying the Digital Divide? research project to examine the social, political and economic impact of Internet technology on society, both nationally and internationally. For the first time in 2003, UCLA will be adding a health information module to this important survey. The Internet is a vital source of health information for many people and promises to become even more important in the future. Data from the UCLA study will complement HINTS by providing in-depth information about public Internet access and use, as well as expand NCI data collection about health information access and use. This will enable correlation of HINTS data with data on related topics gathered longitudinally in the UCLA study. The UCLA Center for Communication Policy is the only research organization known to the NCI that conducts an annual international survey: ?Surveying the Digital Future?: A Longitudinal International Study of the Individual and Social Effects of Technology and the Internet.? This module is a unique opportunity for the NCI to collect data that will complement and extend upon data from NCI?s Health Information National Trends survey. However, if any interested party believes it can provide the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform the requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:30 P.M. EDT on September 02, 2003. This acquisition will be made pursuant to the authority in FAR 13 to use simplified acquisition procedures. The NAICS Code 541990.
