Description
NA This procurement is for 2,500 M40A1 Medium Masks, NSN: 4240-01-370-3822, P/N: 5-1- 2740-20 and is restricted to ILC Manufactured Products Division, Two Moonwalker Road, Frederica, DE 19946. This is published for subcontracting purposes only and offers from concerns other than the above are not solicited. Note 22 applies. A mask consis ts of a silicone rubber facepiece with a filter canister. The facepeice is equipped with front and side voicemitters, drink tube, and eye lenses. Clear and neutral gray outserts protect the eye lenses and reduce glare and lens fogging. A hood, not perma nently attached to the facepiece, provides protection of the head and neck. A canvas carrier is provided with each mask for storing and carrying the mask and its accessories. A waterproof bag is provided for temporary storage of the facepiece when requir ed by climate and mission. A faceform holds the facepiece in proper shape when stored longer than 30 days. The silicone rubber facepiece fits closely against the face to form a seal. Air enters the canister and passes through an air deflector into the ey e area of the facepiece. The canister (screwed on to either the left or right side of the facepiece) filters out the CB agents, toxins, and radioactive particles. From the eye area, air enters a nosecup and is inhaled through the nosecup valves. Exhaled air passes through the nosecup area and is expelled through an outlet valve. Outserts are fitted with a rubber ring, which hold them securely to the facepiece eye lenses. Optical inserts, available by medical prescription, are required for personnel who must wear glasses. The mask does not protect the wearer from ammonia or carbon monoxide. It is not effective where the amount of oxygen in the air is too low to support life.
