- Description
- The U.S. Department of Energy?s National Energy Technology Laboratory is publishing this Synopsis/Solicitation (RFQ) in accordance with FAR 5.203 (Publicizing Contract Actions), FAR 12.603 (Commercial Items) and FAR 13.105 (Simplified Acquisitions). This Synopsis/Solicitation (RFQ) is to request prices for a non-developmental item, Autoclave High Pressure and High Temperature Bench Scale Reactor System utilizing Autoclave engineers bench top reactor system Model 900/PC, or EQUAL. The following is a list of salient characteristics for the purchase of the brand name or equal equipment. High Pressure High Temperature Fixed/Fluidized Bed Reactor Purchase Award will be made to the low priced, technically acceptable (equal) offeror. Equality shall be determined by the offered equipment?s compliance with the following performance requirements. Compliance will be determined by the offeror?s provision of literature showing performance capabilities or through written narrative discussing the points not covered by the published literature. Reactant Streams The proposed unit shall be able to handle up to 9 inputs. These inputs will be 8 gases and one high pressure liquid feed. Each input is equipped with a 7 micron filter and reverse flow check valve. Each of these 8 gas feed lines shall have a mass flow controller with filters and power supply. Each mass flow controller will be calibrated for the given mass flow rate. The mass flow controllers should be rated for a maximum of 500 psig. The liquid feed will be introduced via computer controlled positive displacement pump(0-10 ml/min). Feeds One multiport valve shall be included to permit reactant bypass of the reactor. This valve shall provide a convenient means of performing analytical sampling and possible calibration of the feed material and shall be incorporated as an additional request or by a failsafe condition being automatically activated, a high pressure, inert gas safety feature. When the reactor is placed in the "by-pass" position, either by operator request or by a failsafe condition being automatically activated, a high pressure, inert gas stream shall be activated to purge the reactor contents to a safe vent. Gas/Liquid Separation The unit shall also be equipped with a condenser and knockout vessel in order to remove the steam prior to analytical sample ports. Reactor Specifications The main reactor shall consist of an inner quartz section and an outer metal section. The quartz inner tube shall be manufactured with a lower and upper section. The lower section shall have an inner diameter of 2.25? and a heated length of at least 13?. The upper section shall have an inner diameter of approximately 4?. The height of the upper section shall be maximized to reduce the possibility of carry-over of the catalyst. The reactor shall allow the user to operate the reactor in both an up-flow and down flow modes. The reactor shall also be able to run both fixed and fluidized bed tests. The reactor top shall be designed with freeboard space in order to prevent particle elutriation from the reactor into the rest of the system. Fluid bed testing shall be done on particles ranging from 75-100 microns at a space velocity of 2000 h- . Fixed bed testing shall reach a maximum space velocity of 10,000 h-. Process Conditions: Regeneration ? 25 psig @ 1200 deg. F (up flow) Sulfidation ? 280 psi @ 600 deg. F (downflow) Maximum Operating Conditions: 280 psi at 1,450oF Reactor temperature control shall be handled using a Type K thermocouple located in a thermowell. System pressure shall be controlled by a back pressure control valve(0-300 psig). Heating Process lines, valves, etc. shall be heated to maintain process lines above saturation temperature. Expected steam generation shall be at least 25% by vol. Analytical The unit shall also provide capabilities for GC and/or mass spectrometer ports. These ports shall be located on the on the reactor effluent stream in order to sample outlet concentrations. There shall also be a sample port strategically placed in order to allow for the sampling of the inlet gas streams as well as mass spectrometer calibration. Automation The multiport valve, back-pressure control valve, and all mass feeds shall be automated so that they can be actuated via computer interface. This interface shall also allow for viewing data acquisition, reactor overview, recipes which allow for setting reactor set points for specific durations, and alarms. Failsafe All control loops (pressure, temperature, flow) shall be monitored for nonideal operating conditions. Safety management inputs include: power failure, high temperature limits, sensor burn-out and shorting, high flow limits, and high pressure limits. Simultaneous safety management outputs during a shutdown include: turning off power to heaters, shutting off all reactant feed streams constant purge of valve ovens, and switch reactor off-line to bypass/purge. A rupture disc shall also be added for additional protection. Services Technical services shall be offered as well. These shall include a 1 year warranty with either onsite(preferably) or offsite hands-on training. Documentation All appropriate P&IDs, and manufacturer?s test reports shall be included in the delivery package.
