- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Biometric Research Branch (BRB), plans to procure on a sole source basis with The Math Works, Inc., 3 Apple Hill Drive, Natick, MA 01760 for a MATLAB software for BRB clustering server. The services and supplies herein are being procured using the simplified acquisition procedures as stated in FAR Part 13. The North American Industrial Classification System code is 541511 and the business size standard is $21M. MATLAB is an intuitive language and a technical computing environment. It provides core mathematics and advanced graphical tools for data analysis, visualization, and algorithm and application development. Continuity: Statisticians of Biometric Research Branch have been using MATLAB for years on personal PCs. By installing MATLAB, BRB statisticians will be able to continue to have the necessary tools for advanced mathematical and computational analysis. Compatibility, Efficiency and Processing Speed: Large simulations need weeks or even months of CPU times on PCs. BRB now plans to install the cluster version of MATLAB on our new Beowulf cluster. It will permit us to run full versions of MATLAB across all of the processors and allow for parallel execution of users' simulations, thereby reducing the amount of time required for the simulations to run. The Math Works, Inc. is the only known supplier that produces this product. Changing variables at this time will interrupt correct interpretation of experiments in progress. This is not a request for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirements, especially with regard to compatibility, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any other furnished information must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can fully meet the requirements. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 PM, EDT (local Washington, D.C. time) on September 23, 2003. If you have any questions, please contact Malinda Holdcraft, Purchasing Agent via electronic mail at holdcram@exchange.nih.gov or by fax 301-402-4513. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received shall be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted.
