Description
Abstract: An oscillating-wave engine or refrigerator having a regenerator or a stack in which oscillating flow of a working gas occurs in a direction defined by an axis of a trunk of the engine or refrigerator, incorporates as an improved heat exchanger. Market Applications: Industrial cooling applications that use any of the following: Stirling engines, Stirling refrigerators, orifice pulse tube refrigerators, thermoacoustic engines, thermoacoustic refrigerators, and hybrids and combinations thereof. Applications where cryogenic gas liquefaction is required. Benefits: Effective design for higher-power output oscillating-wave engines and refrigerators that have larger heat exchangers; more specifically, this invention provides a means to eliminate the need for massively-parallel heat-exchanger structures in high-powered oscillating-wave engines and refrigerators. This invention also permits the heat exchangers to be located distant from another and the from the nearest regenerator or stack. Intellectual Property Status: A U.S. Nonprovisional Patent Application has been filed on this technology. The University is seeking to license this technology for development and commercialization. Respondents interested in obtaining such a license are asked to send letters of interest to the attention of Kathleen Herrera at the address below. The University will accept such letters until October 6, 2003. Those respondents will then be asked to prepare a commercialization plan explaining how that company envisions commercializing the technology. The University will select a potential licensee based on the content of the commercialization plans submitted by the respondents and proceed from that point into license negotiations for rights in the technology.
