- Description
- The National Library of Medicine (NLM) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the American Library Association for the development, production and promotion of a traveling exhibit for the NLM exhibit ?Changing the Faces of Medicine.? The American Library Association (ALA) will collaborate with the NLM Exhibition Program in the development of a traveling exhibition for libraries entitled ?Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America?s Women Physicians.? The traveling exhibition is based upon an exhibition of the same name created by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and displayed at the Library from October 14, 2003, to April 2, 2005. The Program will include a traveling exhibition, related interpretive materials, and programs in libraries.that have been influenced by cultural events and attitudes. Other project goals are to: create a visually interesting and appealing exhibition that will attract people of all ages to the library and will give libraries the opportunity to develop and present thought-provoking public programs that relate to the humanities themes of the exhibition; support and encourage libraries to be cultural centers for their communities by offering them the resources to fulfill this role; stimulate librarians to make connections with local historical societies, community groups, educators, medical schools, media and businesses in developing a diverse audience for the exhibition and in creating public programs that attract as many participants and viewers as possible; offer resources and models that continue to strengthen librarians' skills and stimulate their creativity in developing humanities programs for adult and young adult patrons. The ALA will coordinate with the National Library of Medicine project staff will: 1) Design and fabricate four copies of the traveling exhibition. 2) Develop and produce educational and promotional materials for the tour. All materials will help to illuminate for a diverse audience the complex historical, social, and science themes found in the exhibition. These materials will encourage young people, adults, and people with a wide range of interests to further investigate and reflect upon those themes in library programming presented in conjunction with the exhibit. The period of performance shall be for a base year and up to four successive one-year option period(s.) This service will be procured under FAR Part 13.5 (Test Program for Certain Commercial Items) This is not a Request for Quotations (RFQ), nor is an RFQ available, however, all responsible and responsive sources may submit a proposal, which will be considered by the NLM. Firms interested in responding to this notice must be able to provide the professional technical services as specified above.
