Description
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Center for Neutron Research, Small Angle Neutron Scattering Group, has a requirement for the manufacture of a rotating Quartz Cell with an Invar Shaft Assembly, in accordance with NIST provided specifications.***NIST uses a Paar Physica UDS 200 Rheometer in conjunction with the SANS series of neutron instrumentation. The reheometer incorporates a rotating device that is constructed from several interconnecting components. The performance of the reheometer is related to the alignment of this device/assembly. Experience has shown that the assembly frequently becomes misaligned during use. The misalignment can occur during the simple task of just cleaning the assembly. Once misaligned, a labor intensive procedure must be followed to bring the assembly back into alignment. The root cause for the time consuming process is that the assembly is currently constructed from several parts, and each part can contribute to the misalignment. By constructing the assembly as one component, the misalignment problem should be eliminated. Eliminating the misalignment problem will ultimately lower instrument operating costs by not having the repeated expense of frequently aligning this assembly. The purpose of this procurement is to manufacture an assembly in accordance with NIST specifications.***This procurement is subject to the availability of funds in accordance with FAR 52.232-18.*** The competitive Request for Quotation (RFQ), specifications, RFQ amendments, and all questions and answers related to this procurement shall be made available via the Internet at HTTP://WWW.FEDBIZOPS.GOV/ under RFQ number SB1341-04-Q-0005.***The RFP is anticipated for release to the vendor community on or about October 21, 2003, and will only be available via the Internet at the above web site.***Potential offerors are responsible for accessing the web site. Interested parties must respond to the RFQ in order to be considered for award of any resultant contract. ***No written solicitation document is available, telephone requests shall not be honored, and no bidders list shall be maintained. Potential offerors are requested to direct all questions via e-mail to Carol.Wood@NIST.Gov.***The period of performance shall be eight (8) weeks from the date of award.***Delivery shall be FOB DESTINATION.***The NAICS code for this requirement is 334516 with a size standard of 500 employees. This requirement is 100% set-aside for small business.
