Description
Fog Mountain/Indian Hill Trailhead Improvement. The project will consist of leveling and graveling of parking areas and/or parking spurs, site clearing of down woody debris and limbing of trees, installing fire rings, leveling of tent pads, installing concrete feed bunks, metal game hanging racks, bulletin boards and the installation of two vault toilets (one at each trailhead). Work also includes installing drain dips in 200? of trail at Indian Hill, and the removal of existing wooden toilet and bulletin boards. For both projects, from Kooskia, Idaho follow Hwy 12 east approx 22 miles to Lowell, ID. At Lowell, take the Selway River Road 223 southeast. To access Fog Mountain Trailhead, travel Selway Road 223 approx 18 miles, to the junction with the Fog Mountain Road 319. Turn north on Road 319 and follow it to the end of the road at Big Fog Saddle. The Fog Mountain Trailhead is located at the end of the road. The Fog Mountain Road 319 is open to highway vehicles until December 1. After December 1, the site may be accessed by motorcycle, ATV or snowmobile. To access the Indian Hill Trailhead, travel in a southeasterly direction along the Selway River Road 223 from Lowell, approx 18 miles, just past the Selway Falls Guard Station, turn south on the Selway Falls Road 443 crossing the bridge over the Selway River. Follow Road 443 south approx 1.5 miles to the junction with the Indian Hill Road 290. Head south on Road 290, crossing the bridge over Meadow Creek to Slim Campground/Trailhead. Due to recent fire activity, Road 290 from Slim Campground to the project site is closed to highway vehicles. The Indian Hill Trailhead may be reviewed by traveling Road 290 approximately 11 miles with a motorcycle or ATV. It is expected Road 290 will be open to highway vehicles during the summer of 2004. Est. price range: $25,000 - $100,000. Est. start work July 2004. ALL INTERESTED QUOTERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW THE SITE THIS FALL, AS THIS PROJECT WILL BE ADVERTISED PRIOR TO SNOWMELT IN 2004.
