Description
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY TO COMMERCIALIZE A CELLULAR TELEPHONE-BASED RADIATION DETECTOR NETWORK Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking one or more industrial partners to commercialize LLNL's RadNet handheld cellular telephone-based detector network. Scientists at LLNL have invented a radiation detection network. This technology consists of sensitive solid-state hybridized detectors coupled to cellular telephones. Potential uses of the invention are to detect radioactive materials in a coverage area, and provide real time information on radioactive sources or events. Prototype units with some capabilities were field tested in May 2003. A full prototype unit is expected to be in field trials by January 2004. In the meantime, LLNL is seeking industrial partners to commercialize the invention. LLNL is also looking for collaborative research and development to improve the invention and to explore other usages of the invention. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's Cellular Telephone-based Radiation Detector Network technology should provide a written statement of interest which includes the following: 1. Company name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing this technology. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO00007-03 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's subject title.
