Description
Minimum requirements - - Looking for a firm to provide the following: PhD-level lead scientist with a minimum of eight years previous synchrotron research experience in studies of surface physics and photoemission processes. Advanced-degree-level support scientist with a minimum of 3 years previous experience in synchrotron research and experimentation. Critical skills that must be possessed by the operations team: Broad experience in x-ray physics experiments involving filters, mirrors, monochrometers, etc. Excellent computer skills in such areas as hardware control, data acquisition and data analysis. Extensive experience operating an NSLS beamline and performing experiments at NSLS. Experience in ultra-high vacuum instrumentation and vacuum leak-checking. Experience operating, testing, trouble-shooting x-ray detection instrumentation and in interfacing such instrumentation with CAMAC-based data acquisition equipment. Experience with the XIXON data acquisition and control program. Experience designing, developing and debugging computer programs operating in DOS, Windows and Labview environments. Familiarity with mechanical and optical alignment and design techniques. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, to initiate and complete tasks with a minimum of instruction and oversight, in an environment where most instructions are received remotely by e-mail and telephone. Knowledge of DOE work processes and safety procedures, preferably through previous work at a DOE facility.
