- Description
- NA White Sands Missile Range has proposed the elimination of film based high speed, high resolution cameras and desires to replace legacy film systems with high speed digital imaging systems. This market survey is to determine if digital imaging technology ha s matured to a point where high-speed digital substitutes for large-format instrumentation film cameras will be available. Most commercial-off-the-shelf instrumentation-grade digital cameras presently available offer a minimum of 1024 by 1024 pixel resolut ions and full frame rates at 1000 frames per second. This survey is to determine if our need for a 6-7 mega pixel, minimum 500 full frames per second digital cameras will be available for FY05 and to ensure all interested vendors are aware of our specific range requirements. Sensor: 2727 x 2727 pixels, minimum 500 fps @ full frame, 24 bit color (22u pixel required for max sensitivity = 60mm x 60mm sensor size). Control/Interface: Gigabit Ethernet over Cat 5 cable, plus RS-232, FireWire or USB interface. Storage: Store internally at least 8 seconds recording at 500 fps @ full frame. IRIG Timing: Internal modulated IRIG-B input, time tag each image to 10usec accuracy. Electronic Shutter: variable from 25usec minimum up to full frame rate. Image Formats: Produce TIFF and AVI files. Package: Camera completely sealed from dust and moisture. Weigh less then 15 lbs. Size less then 6 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches. Sensor with adjustable backplane. Nikon and HD Wide lens adapters. Operational requirements: Continuous NTSC output (even during record)(COLOR if color camera), with option for timing and data text displayed. Continuous 60-frame/sec digital streaming considered. Video must update from new scene taken every 1/60 second. Must have option for immediate automatic NTSC playback after recording. Must have option for automatic download to hard drive after recording. Must provide option for selected partial do wnloads. Must provide option to record several short sessions based on Start/Stop commands (with record time remaining displayed) or preset times. Must provide option to do sub-frame recording for faster fps and longer record times and still maintain origi nal center of frame. Must have at least 1000 to 1 anti-bloom response. Must have option for AGC (automatic gain control). Must have option for setting maximum intetration time in automatic shutter mode (shutter info recorded). Must have variable pre/post t rigger. (Short & TTL low). Must have Ramp-up record option. (both software and external pulse controlled). Must provide recording synchronized to IRIG & GPS: example 1Kfps recording = (02:35:55.345,000) (02:35:55.346,000). Must provide record phase shift c apability, so that two cameras (IRIG time synchronized) recording at 1K fps, will provide the same data as one camera recording at 2K fps (Control for both phase or time shift.). Must operate in stand alone mode, with no other cables or equipment other the n IRIG timing and trigger required after initial set-up. Environment: Must operate in ??????10 to +50 degrees C temperature environment. (14 to 122 degrees F). Must accept shock with no damage of 100g @ 10 msec, 1000 cycles. Must accept vibration with no damage of 16g, random, from 5 ?????? 2500 Hz). Must be capable of both A/C power and 12-28 volts DC. Must provide operational and detailed maintenance/parts manual. Must provide maintenance training for technicians. Typical setup: Place camera on tripod. Plug in A/C (optional DC) power. Connect 40 ft NTSC video cable and Ethernet (RS-232 optional) control cable to computer and video monitor. Trigger and Record event. Immediate post-test NTSC view of event @ 30 fps (in slow motion). Download and Store Data. Print selected TIFF files with IRIG time. Save selected T IFF and AVI files to DVD. Note: The above specifications are current recommended guidelines, and we would welcome other suggested alternatives for consideration. The Government is con ducting an on-going market survey in its search for these type of digital camera. This research is conducted via the Internet, trade shows, and other Government ranges. As part of this market survey the Government conducts a side by side test of existing off-the-shelf camera systems. This is not a formal solicitation. Interested firms and/or individuals may request to receive a copy of the solicitation when/if it becomes available. This survey could result in possible procurement action for the acquisitio n of up to 30 units over a 3-year period. POC for this action is Mr. David Telles who can be reached at (505)678-2173 or tellesd@wsmr.army.mil.
