- Description
- The purpose of this action is to enter into a contract with the National Academy of Sciences for the purposes of assessing and validating scientific and engineering excellence in the Department of Energy's missions and programs; informing the Department of relevant scientific and technical data and related views of experts about its research and programmatic activities; applying the judgments of science and engineering to public policy; and otherwise contributing to the vitality and productivity of the Department's scientific enterprise and its extended research and development communities. To the extent that the Department determines that it is in the public interest for its decision making processes to receive independent scientific and technical advice of unparalleled objectivity and of the highest quality, which possesses an inherent degree of public acceptability, under this contract the Academy may, as requested, examine, experiment, and/or report upon any subject of science or art relevant to the Department's missions, programs and activities. A sole-source, cost-type, indefinate-quantity contract is contemplated. This will be for a five year period. Task orders will be issued as specific requirements are identified. The total ceiling for the five-year effort is expected to be $40,000,000.
