- Description
- The Naval Air Systems Command Air Combat Electronics Program Office (PMA209) is investigating the feasibility of incorporating the Tactical Aircraft Moving Map Capability (TAMMAC) functionality into a knee-board-type piece of avionic equipment and is soliciting information from industry on current industry capability. The Government intends to use the provided information to aid in defining an acquisition strategy and budgeting assumptions. The current TAMMAC system is a system of systems incorporating a digital map computer (DMC), an advanced memory unit (AMU) that serves as a mission loading portal and an aircraft systems maintenance data capture point, and a high-speed interface. Theater maps and mission information are loaded into the DMC, via the AMU, using Type II PCMCIA cards. Moving map information is considered Government furnished equipment. Aircraft maintenance data is also captured on flight-worthy PCMCIA cards. This capability offers an important situational awareness tool to the Navy and Marine Corps aircraft inventory. Some platform program offices are interested in a scaled-down capability ? specifically a crew-mounted (knee board-type) device that offers the following minimal capabilities: Under $10k per unit; Supports a computer operating system (preferably Windows based); Night vision device compatible; Military GPS on-board and/or the capability to connect to the organic GPS system; Rugged enough to operate within the physical and electromagnetic environment common to Naval aviation; To the greatest extent possible, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technology; Computer interfaces (USB, MIL-STD-1553B, RS-422, Ethernet, etc.); The capability to support digital and/or analog input/output activities; A user-friendly interface; Physical characteristics that make the device light enough to be easily portable and not an impediment to ground and airborne aircrew activities. Request interested parties provide the following: a) A one page company history description to include: Small Business Administration (SBA) business size classification, major products, primary customer base, and points of contacts and their telephone numbers, that are able to discuss the material submitted; b) a description ? no greater than 5 pages - of product/products that meet the minimum capabilities noted above. Interested parties should provide budgetary pricing and product information for this RFI no later than 5 December 2003. If the material provided contains proprietary information, please mark and identify disposition instructions (submitted data will not be returned). Address responses to: Naval Air Systems Command, 47123 Buse Road, Unit IPT, Suite 256, Attn: Janine Stratakes, Air-2.4.2.4.1, Patuxent River, MD 20670-1547 or submit electronically to janine.stratakes@navy.mil. Electronic responses are recommended and encouraged. Following the closure of this RFI, NAVAIR intends to host an industry day. It is expected that interested parties will have their hardware available for individual demonstrations and technical discussions at that time. If an industry day is scheduled, further information will be posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website. This RFI does not in any way constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) and as such, is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this notice nor otherwise pay for information requested. The Respondents may not be notified of the results of the Navy?s review of any information submitted in response to this RFI. Information provided herein is subject to change and in no way binds the Government to solicit for or award a contract. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized on the Federal Business Opportunities website. It is the responsibility of the potential offeror to monitor Federal Business Opportunities for the release of any follow-on information.
