- Description
- Modification 0002: This modification is being issued to change the due date for company support documentation and to add additional information to this Request for Information (RFI). The due date for vendor's support documentation is changed to December 5, 2003. Request the vendors submit documentation that responds to NOAA's needs within this RFI and the modifications. The following paragraph is being added as additional information: NOAA's National Weather Service serves mission related weather information to the public via Internet web servers. For the past few months, NWS has experimented in using Internet Map Server technologies to both display this information and to serve it to via OpenGIS standards to partners. Usage patterns for NWS information on the Internet vary depending on weather affecting different parts of the county, often resulting in millions of hits per day. Our primary interest in this RFI is to better understand available software platforms that can handle this level of traffic in a Linux based environment distributed across several geographically separated web farms. (End of Modification) The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/National Weather Service (NWS) is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) in order to find companies that can support the following requirement. The NWS is researching for companies who can provide information on Internet Mapping Services (IMS) technology based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that conform to OpenGIS Specifications. Specifically, NWS is seeking information on IMS technologies that run on the Linux operating system, can support infrastructures to handle millions of web requests (hits) per day, and support industry standard formats like shapefiles. The system should be able to support interactions with ralational databases, including open source databases like MySQL and PostgresSQL. If you are a company that can support the NWS's needs stated in this RFI, request you submit the support documentation electronically to Robert.Bunge@noaa.gov and copy the primary point of contact in this RFI. This RFI will close on November 28, 2003. This RFI announcement is for market research purposes, only.
