THE PURPOSE OF THIS SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS IS TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF POTENTIAL QUALIFIED SOURCES FOR PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY FOR THE U.S. ARMY CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH (USACEHR), FORT DETRICK, MARYLAND. Its mission is to direct and conduct research, development, testing and validation for the medical aspects of environmental surveillance and environmental health in support of force health protection. USACEHR is seeking biologically-based toxicity sensor technologies to identify drinking water hazards associated with a broad range of toxic industrial and agrochemical materials. Specifically sought are sensors that utilize responses from living cells, tissues, or organisms to provide a rapid evaluation of drinking water toxicity. A short fact sheet (less than three pages) is requested for each technology that summarizes specifications and capabilities in the following areas: (1) Toxicity sensor type: living s ystem used, endpoints monitored, and monitoring method; (2) Response to toxic chemicals: chemicals tested, concentration required for a response in an hour or less, test precision, and response to potential interfering substances such as residual chlorine or others; (3) Logistical issues: culture requirements, environmental requirements, routine maintenance, survivability in storage and transport, sample throughput, and potential for field use; (4) Cost: basic unit, cost per test. Technology information pr ovided will support a competitive down selection process for toxicity sensor technologies. However, this announcement is not a formal solicitation and is not a request for proposal. No contract will be awarded from this announcement. No reimbursement wi ll be made of any costs to provide information in response to this announcement or any follow up information requests. Availability of any formal solicitation will be announced under a separate announcement.
