- Description
- The following are the questions that were posed concerning the subject solicitation. The answers immediately follow the questions. If you have any further questions, please contact SSgt Jennifer Nalls at (830) 298-4965 or email at jennifer.nalls@laughlin.af.mil or contact Mr. James Harper at (830) 298-5175 or email at james.harper@laughlin.af.mil. The response date has been extended to 15 December 2003 @ 1630 CST. 1. What is the size and weight of the bearings? 1? to 51/2? in diameter ? variable weights not to exceed 1 pound. 2. What does demagnetizing mean? Does it mean to prevent magnetizing or marring or does it mean to demagnetize already magnetized parts? Demagnetizing was meant to convey that the system will need to be able to demagnetize bearings that have various levels of magnetization, (all bearing acquire magnetizing to various degrees). 3. Is a batch system or singly conveyed system desired? A batch system is desired to enhance productivity. 4. Is it possible to visit the base and review the operations of the shop in question? Yes, but please keep in mind that the government will not fund a site visit. We ask that all site visits be conducted 5 days prior to the response date. This is so that there are no more extensions to the response date. 5. Is it possible to obtain drawings or photos of the bearings? Yes, they are attached to this amendment. 6. Is there a basic design or concept in mind? A dynamic flow multi-stage unit that washes, demagnetizes, rinses, and then saturates the bearing with protective oil at conclusion of process. 7. Will some of the bearings have splines on i.d. or o.d.? No 8. Are the bearings enclosed or needle bearing type? The bearings are either roller or ball. Most of them are retained. 9. Who manufactures the bearings? Various manufactures to include but not limited to New Hampshire Bearing Company and Timken. 10. What are the recommended/permissible cleaning chemicals and fluid temperatures from the manufacturer? Armakleen m-hp-2 has been approved for our application by our engineering section. 11. What is the approximate average amount of oil and grease in each bearing in ounces? There are trace amounts of oil and grease. 12. Who is the manufacturer of the current cleaning material and what is it? What we are currently using does not adequately clean. It is PD-680. This is why we have requested Armakleen m-hp-2 solvent. 13. Is bearing pre-cleaned to remove excessive grease etc before washing? No, the unit must be designed to handle the cleaning required. There are no greased bearings since all are lubricated with 7808 oil. Our biggest concern is removing the carbon from hot section bearings.
