- NA The fiscal year 2004 (FY04) Defense Appropriations Act provides $85 million to the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) to support innovative research directed toward eliminating prostate cancer. This program is administered by th e US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command through the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The PCRP is releasing Program Announcements for ten different funding mechanisms in FY04. The name of each funding mechani sm, its Program Announcement release date, and submission deadline are as follows: Exploration-Hypothesis Development Award, Exploration-Resource Development Award, Health Disparity Research-Prostate Scholar Award, Health Disparity Training-Prostate Schol ar Award, Idea Development Award, New Investigator Award, and Postdoctoral Traineeship Award were all released on 21 November 2003 with a submission deadline of February 10, 2004, 5:00 pm Eastern Time. The Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBC U) Undergraduate Collaborative Summer Training Program Award was also released on 21 November 2003 with a submission deadline of June 15, 2004, 5:00 pm Eastern Time. The Physician Research Training Award, and HBCU Collaborative Partnership Award mechanisms will be released approximately 01 December 2003 with a submission deadline of June 15, 2004, 5:00 pm Eastern Time. The new opportunity from the above mechanisms for prostate cancer research funding this year include the HBCU Undergraduate Collaborative Su mmer Training Program Awards which are intended to establish summer training programs for HBCU undergraduates and establish strong relationships between host Institutions with strong prostate cancer programs and HBCU. Detailed descriptions of each of thes e funding mechanisms, evaluation criteria, and submission requirements can be found in the FY04 PCRP Program Announcement corresponding to that funding mechanism. Each Program Announcement can be downloaded from the CDMRP web site (http://cdmrp.army.mil). All applicants will be required to submit one electronic version of their proposal as a PDF (portable document format) file. All documents may be downloaded from the CDMRP website. The website also contains further information about the PCRP, PCRP awarde es, previous PCRP Program Announcements, and other CDMRP-sponsored programs and events.
