Description
Request for Information (RFI) - The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Charleston (SSC CH) seeks sources and information concerning the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for the purpose of accounting for the identity of individuals within a controlled facility or space in the event of emergencies requiring evacuation of said facility or space. Information on State of the Art (SOFA) RFID systems/equipment is requested. Data on new or emerging technologies capable of supporting the goal of determining the identities of personnel within a facility or other defined boundary during an emergency or evacuation scenario is also needed to assist planning of future work in this area. Requirement: Specific technical areas of interest for systems and technology include: (1) RFID sensors, passive powered, tags, form factors, signal coding, and read distance limitations; (2) Software availability, including Software Development Kits (SDKs), to facilitate integration of RFID solutions into existing Electronic Security Systems (ESSs); (3) Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) support, to allow portable and handheld devices (e.g., PDAs) to access the system database; (4) Database redundancy mechanisms, including off-site replication of data to insure availability of data during emergency scenarios; (5) Support for existing and emergent standards. Demonstration of RFID technology: We are interested in a demonstration of this technology to achieve a significant increase in integrated functionality or operational performance in an operational setting. Therefore, we request information on (1) Current SOFA Products, (2) Available and emerging products/technologies, (3) Near term research and beta products that are potential candidates for investment. Submittals: Interested parties should submit (1) Technical information and materials regarding existing and proposed products, technologies, and research. This includes, but is not limited to, current and/or projected performance capabilities and potential delivery schedules; (2) A brief description of relevant and recently completed efforts; (3) Pertinent company information, including contact person, phone number and email address. No proprietary data should be submitted. Any submissions will be considered to be public information and may be handled by non-government personnel. Responses to this RFI should be mailed to: SPAWARSYSCEN Charleston, Attn: Code 741MB, P.O. Box 190022, N. Charleston, SC, 29419-9022, no later than 22 DEC 2003. Please provide 3 copies of any hardcopy items. This RFI is for planning purposes only, and should not be construed as a Request for Proposal (RFP) or solicitation of an offer.
