Description
The Library of Congress FEDLINK Program has a requirement for Preservation Services for Library and Archival Collections. This solicitation is for the acquisition of a variety of preservation services for FEDLINK member agencies. This solicitation is divided into six (6) LOTs: LOT 1 - Conservation of Rare Books and other Rare Library and Archival Materials (Including Protective Enclosures); LOT 2 - Conservation of Flat Paper and other Rare Library and Archival Materials (Including Protective Enclosures); LOT 3 - Preservation Photocopying /Scanning of Books; LOT 4 - Preservation Microfilming; LOT 5 Preservation Duplication of Photographs and Negatives; and LOT 6 - Preservation Consultation and Training. Under LOTs 1 and 2, vendors provide services to preserve objects and stabilize their condition. Conservation treatments must be performed in a manner consistent with the durability and aesthetic quality of the objects. Under LOT 1, conservation treatments may be performed on books and other documents, as well as maps, photographs, illustrations and other material found within the items on a variety of media including but not limited to paper, vellum, and parchment. Under LOT 2, conservation treatments may be performed on manuscripts, architectural drawings, photographs, maps, wallpaper, globes, and other documents on a variety of media including, but not limited to paper, vellum, and parchment. Under LOT 3, vendors will convert bound volumes to preservation facsimile copies. The items may be monographs or volumes from serials, series, or multi-volume monographs. They may be in any language and may vary in size. Items may include plates, photographs, graphs, maps, charts, drawings, engravings or other illustrated material. Under LOT 4, vendors convert library materials to preservation microfilm. The items may be manuscripts, works of art on paper, and other documents, including monographs or volumes from serials, series, or multi-volume monographs. The items may be any language and may vary in size. Items may include plates, photographs, graphs, maps, charts, drawings, engravings or other illustrated material. Under LOT 5, vendors create preservation copies of photographs and photographic negatives onto stable material. Under LOT 6, services offered may include workshops and seminars on preservation and conservation topics; consultation on conservation needs of specific collections or objects; training of technicians; and general preservation needs assessment surveys, collection surveys, and item-by-item surveys. Vendors may qualify under any or all lots. Multiple awards are anticipated. EXCLUSIONS: This requirement excludes conservation of paintings, sculptures and other three dimensional art objects. The RFP# S-LC04017 will be issued on or about January 21, 2004. Vendors are responsible for ensuring that all amendments are received prior to submittal of proposals.
