Description
PURPOSE ? The USAF is seeking potential sources who have the capability to produce an Antenna Drive Special Purpose Radar Electric Motor used on Airport Surveillance Radar AN/GPN-20. Specifications for the requirement are attached herein. Drawings are attached. Qualification test units will be required for evaluation purposes prior to any potential contract award. Applicable to: ATCALS Program. Destination: Tinker Air Force Base Ok 73145-3032. THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY. THE AIR FORCE DOES NOT INTEND TO PAY FOR THIS INFORMATION NOR AWARD A CONTRACT BASED ON THIS NOTICE. SPECIFICATION FOR ANTENNA DRIVE SPECIAL PURPOSE RADAR ELECTRIC MOTOR USED ON AIRPORT SURVEILLANCE RADAR AN/GPN-20 1. Scope a. This specification is intended to define a special purpose Radar motor. The specified motor and gearbox will provide the azimuth rotational power for the Airport Surveillance RADAR AN/GPN-20. b. The design of the special purpose Radar motor, and all components, materials, and services furnished sha ll be in accordance with and meet the intent of this specification; the basic specification listed below, and any subsidiary specifications referred to therein. 2. Performance Criteria a. The following form Input/Output criteria for the item(s) referenced in this document. (1) Input Specifications: 120/208 VAC, 60 Hz, three-phase (2) Output Specifications: 67.0 or 67.2 RPM (3) Brake operation IAW figure 1 3. General Requirements a. Service Conditions (1) Ambient Temperature: -40oC to +50oC (2) Ambient relative humidity up to 100% (3) Elevation from 0 to 10,000 feet above sea level (4) Salt atmosphere as encountered in coastal regions b. Service requirements (1) Motor Horsepower rating of 5 HP (2) Meet the dimension specifications identified in figure 2 and figure 3 (3) Duty-continuous, unattended (4) Useful service life of at least 20 years (5) No lubrication shall be required more frequently than 9,000 hours of actual operation (6) No overhaul (replacement of bearings, seals, gears) shall be required more frequently than every 25,000 hours of actual operation (7) No part of the drive units shall require replacement because of oil leakage more often than every 25,000 hours actual operation (8) The drive units shall show no evidence of oil leaking during service life (9) The drive motor shall have high- grade anti- friction bearings. The design and quality shall be such as to insure bearing life of at least 25,000 hours of operation. (10) The motor and speed reducer shall produce no objectionable vibration or noise or excessive humming (11) Provisions shall be made for accessible oil level checks, fill and drain plugs 4. Special purpose Radar electric motor requirements a. Electric drive motor (1) Totally enclosed type, fan cooled, designed for continuous duty (2) Motor shall contain a thermal protection capability adjusted so that no damage occurs to the motor during temporary overload (3) The motor line current shall be limited to approximately 95 amperes (RMS) in starting. (4) 115-Volt, 60 Hz a-c single-phase electrically operated waterproof and dust-tight brake shall be provided to hold the antenna stationary with all power off in winds up to 85 knots. To prevent damage to mechanical drive elements, the brake shall slip when torques exceed the peak imposed by the 85-knot limit. (5) The brake shall be released by energizing through a remotely located brake release switch. (6) The brake tension shall be adjustable so that the antenna may be stopped gradually. (7) A manual brake release lever shall also be incorporated in the brake mechanism. (8) AC line voltage: 105V to 130V Line to neutral and 182V to 226V (9) AC line frequency: 60 Hz + 2 Hz (10) Motor leads and brake leads are to be kept separate and terminated at a terminal strip enclosed in a watertight junction box to be provided as part of the special purpose Radar motor. (11) The special purpose Radar motor shall be designed, ma nufactured, and tested in accordance with the latest applicable standards of NEMA, ANSI, IEEE, ASTM, and MIL-M-17060F. (12) Enclosures shall be rolled steel or cast iron construction. Any cast aluminum mounting hardware shall have steel inserts. (13) Conduit box shall be die cast aluminum or cast iron construction and shall be located in the position shown in figure 2. The brake leads and motor leads shall be clearly identified. (14) Eyebolts on the frame shall be furnished for handling convenience and shall support the weight of the special purpose Radar motor. (15) Motor nameplate shall be mounted on enclosure with stainless steel fastening pins. Nameplate shall have, as a minimum, all information as described in NEMA Standard MG-1-20.60. (16) Windings shall be copper magnet wire rated at 200? C and moisture resistant. Magnet wire insulation varnish must be of a type designed to resist transient spikes, high frequencies, and short time rise pulses produced by inverters. Motor insulation system shall comply with NEMA MG1-1998 Part 31.4.4.2. (17) Motor insulation shall meet or exceed Class B. (18) Overheat protectors shall be mounted on the end turns of the stator to be accessible by removing the end bracket of the motor. (19) Gears shall be AGMA class 2 or class 3. (20) The brake assembly shall be in a waterproof and dust tight enclosure. The brake capacity shall be 35 FT LBS. The manual brake torque adjustment shall be + 25%. A manual brake engagement and release mechanism shall be located on the exterior of the brake housing. Brake leads shall be waterproof, dust tight, and UV resistant. (21) Plugs shall be shipped installed in all oil and drain holes. Protective caps to be shipped installed in all grease fittings. b. Special purpose Radar electric motor output (1) Rotation in clockwise direction only when viewed from the end of the motor opposite the normal drive shaft. (2) Speed ? approximately 67 RPM (3) Speed variation not to exceed +10% from 67 rpm under any combination of service conditions and loading specified herein. (4) Under any specified conditions of environmental extremes with a line voltage of 182 volts at a frequency of 62 Hz, the special purpose Radar motor must be capable of developing 800 ft/pounds of torque at the output shaft. (5) This motor will be used to drive a radar antenna through a spiral bevel gear reduction of 5.375. The antenna will turn at 12.5 rpm.
