- Description
- For the program 2004, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) Program will be chemically treating thousands of exposed ALB host trees in designated areas in New York and Chicago. APHIS intends on using pressurized delivery systems to inject specified volumes of Imicide (10% imidacloprid, manufactured and distributed by the J.J. Mauget Company, Arcadia, California) into infested and at-risk trees during 2004 program year. APHIS intends to approve pressurized delivery system(s) that offers the best value to the ALB Program. Devices will be tested and evaluated on several general criteria as follow: ease of use; ability to reliably and consistently deliver a known volume of pesticide to the test trees' xylem; sound construction; durability under heavy and harsh field use; compatibility with the USDA tip; minimal damage to integrity of the tree; protection of worker safety, prevention of pesticide exposure; protection of the environment, i.e., leakage prevention. APHIS will issue the design specifications and the trial agreements outlining the terms and conditions for testing and evaluating the vendor's presurized delivery system approximately on or about December 15, 2003. Deadline for submission of two complete systems with instructions or training manuals must be submitted no later than 4:00 p.m. EST on December 30, 2003. Testing and evaluation will begin approximately on or about January 5, 2004. Qualified injector systems will be identified on or about January 16, 2004. To request a copy of the specifications and a trial agreement for evaluation of your pressurized delivery system, you must submit a written, email, or faxed request stating name, address, telephone number, and email to the Contract Specialist, Margie Thorson, at margie.p.thorson@aphis.usda.gov, fax at Area code (612) 370-2106, or address: USDA, APHIS, MRPBS, ASD; Contracting Team; Butler Square West, 5th Floor; 100 North Sixth Street; Minneapolis, MN 55403.
