Description

The Government intends to award a sole source HUBZone contract to American Technology Corp, Baltimore, MD for the manufacture of 200,000 Second Skins for the MCU-2A/P mask. The MCU-2A/P is the primary Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) Protective Mask used by the Air Force and Navy for their ground forces. The MCU-2A/P is a single eye lens variant of the M-40 Mask currently used by the Army and Marines. The MCU series mask consists of silicon face blank and nose cup, side mounted C2/C2A1 canister, six point head harness, front and side voicemitters, drinking tube and built in microphone pass-through. The face blank is vulnerable to chemical agent permeation since silicon will allow chemical agents, especially liquid to penetrate at a much faster rate, thus jeopardizing the protective capability of the mask. The Second Skin is a molded covering that fits over the face blank of the mask providing the needed chemical protection.
